My name is Lauren Heckelman, and I'm a proud Duke University alumna. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in biomedical engineering (BME) in Spring 2016 and a Master of Science in BME in Fall 2017, but I'm not quite ready to leave Durham, NC yet.
I'm currently pursuing a PhD in BME at Duke University in Dr. Lou DeFrate's Musculoskeletal Bioengineering Laboratory. My current research involves using magnetic resonance imaging, solid modeling, and image processing techniques to investigate human hip and knee cartilage mechanics in vivo. I'm also enrolled in the Certificate in College Teaching program, which is designed to provide extensive training and instructional experiences to graduate students interested in pursuing a career in academia.
My research interests include orthopaedic biomechanics, musculoskeletal imaging, and signal and image processing.
